SISIN ( Finnish for “quiddity” ) is a sculptural hand carved vessel series where the forms and textures are inspired by exceptional beauty and necessity of mushrooms.
The shapes, scale and different surfaces emerge through exploring the landscape shaped by people, the climate, and nature. Many things, however, remain beyond the reach of human senses. There are messages passed in the woods that you cannot hear, see, smell or taste. Trees and mushrooms communicate chemically with each other through a common mycorrhiza, while mushrooms communicate with each other using electrical impulses, and plants can communicate with each other through an underground network of mycelia. Hidden underground, and in the very core of natural objects, are wonders without which life on earth would be very different or would not be available to us at all.
